Miley Cyrus’ portrait was ‘Misinterpreted’

Photographer Annie Leibovitz is weighing in on her controversial Vanity Fair photograph of Miley Cyrus, in which the teenager appears to be topless, saying she finds the image “simple” and “beautiful.”

“I’m sorry that my portrait of Miley has been misinterpreted,” says Leibovitz in a statement issued Monday. “Miley and I looked at fashion photographs together and we discussed the picture in that context before we shot it. The photograph is a simple, classic portrait, shot with very little makeup, and I think it is very beautiful.” more

  1. I was really sad to see all of the “controversy” around this picture. It’s like the media just looks for ways to try and bring an artist down. While I personally would be a little worried about having a 15-year-old pose for any type of provocative picture, the fact is, there are models who are 15 or 16 years old posing for fashion pictures like this every day. She is a beautiful girl, it’s a beautiful picture, and I think it will stand up as a very strong portrait in the portfolio of a prolific, brilliant photographer.
